Korean leader Kim Jong Un issued a warning stating that Pyongyang would not hesitate to launch a nuclear attack in response to any provocation involving nuclear weapons as reported by state media on Thursday. Kim conveyed this message during a meeting with soldiers from the military’s missile bureau discussing the drill involving ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

As per the news agency report Kim highlighted that the recent activities of the military clearly demonstrated their counteraction capabilities and showcased how North Korea’s nuclear strategy and doctrine have evolved. He emphasised that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is fully prepared to respond with an attack if provoked by an adversary using weapons.

On Tuesday North Korea announced the testing of its ICBM conducted on Monday. This test aimed to evaluate the readiness of its force amidst escalating tensions with the United States. The launch drew criticism from both the U.S. and its allies. Kim commended this launch for demonstrating the military’s mobility and rapid attack capability while urging efforts to enhance combat efficiency.

Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong released a statement expressing her disapproval of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convening a meeting specifically addressing North Korea’s ICBM launch. She stated that the country had every right to defend itself. Kim Yo Jong held the U.S, and South Korea (ROK) is accountable, for escalating tensions in the peninsula due to their military provocations.

The geopolitical tensions in the region are escalating, with North Korea sending a clear message about its nuclear capabilities and its willingness to use them in response to perceived threats. The statements from Kim Jong Un and Kim Yo Jong indicate a defiance of international pressure, raising concerns about the stability of the situation in the Korean peninsula and the potential for further diplomatic challenges in the coming days. Observers are closely monitoring developments and diplomatic responses from the international community in this volatile situation.
