A Symbol of India’s Growing Atmanirbharta in Defence Manufacturing
Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a sortie on the Tejas aircraft at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) site in Karnataka’s Bengaluru. This marks a significant moment in India’s journey towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The Tejas is a lightweight, single-engine, multirole fighter aircraft developed by HAL. It is the first indigenously developed fighter aircraft to be inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF).
“Flying in Tejas today, I can say with immense pride that due to our hard work and dedication, we are no less than anyone in the world in the field of self-reliance. Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Air Force, DRDO and HAL as well as all Indians”, wrote PM Modi on social media platform on X.
Prime Minister Modi’s sortie on the Tejas aircraft is a testament to the government’s commitment to boosting India’s defence capabilities. The government has taken a number of initiatives to promote self-reliance in defence manufacturing, including increasing domestic procurement, establishing defence corridors, and simplifying the process of obtaining clearances for defence projects.
The Tejas aircraft is a symbol of India’s growing Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing. It is a state-of-the-art fighter aircraft that is capable of carrying out a variety of missions, including air-to-air combat, air-to-ground attack, and reconnaissance. The IAF has already inducted 40 Tejas aircraft into its fleet, and plans to induct an additional 83 aircraft in the coming years.
