Jind: In a distressing incident from Haryana’s Jind district, a government school principal stands accused of sexually assaulting 142 minor girl students. The arrested principal allegedly committed the acts over a six-year span. A probe committee, led by a senior officer, recorded statements from 390 girls. Of these, 142 reported sexual assault, while others witnessed the horrifying acts. Jind Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Imran Raza revealed that the majority accused the principal, now behind bars, while the rest were witnesses.
Earlier, 15 girls had written to various authorities on August 31, detailing the disturbing acts. The Haryana Women’s Commission took cognizance on September 13, forwarding it to Jind Police on September 14. However, an FIR was filed only on October 30, raising concerns about delayed action.
The accused was arrested on November 4, produced in court on November 7, and remanded in judicial custody. The state women’s commission initially stated 60 girls came forward, but the number later rose to 142. Critics questioned the delayed FIR registration, citing the POCSO Act’s provisions for prompt action on reported sexual harassment.
District officials, including police and Education department officials, faced criticism for sluggish response. DC Raza indicated the principal’s guilt was prima facie established, and a chargesheet would lead to dismissal and denial of job-related perks. Further actions await the chargesheet, with ADC Harish Vasisth assigned for additional investigation.
This case has raised concerns about the responsiveness of authorities and adherence to child protection laws, emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action in such serious matters.
