The situation in the Gaza conflict has led to tensions surrounding Al Shifa Hospital, the largest medical facility in the region. The Israeli military, during their ground incursion over a two-week period has specifically focused on the hospital. They claim that there is an alleged Hamas command centre beneath it and that civilians are being used as shields.
According to the IDF their forces are conducting a targeted operation within an area of Al Shifa. They deny taking control of the hospital but acknowledge a manoeuvre against what they consider a stronghold of Hamas.

The situation inside Al Shifa is dire with thousands of displaced civilians, patients and medical staff believed to be stranded. According to reports there are instances where medical procedures are being performed without anaesthesia due to shortages of necessities like food, water and medicines.
Hamas strongly denies the White House’s accusation that they are utilising Al Shifa for activities. The group argues that such claims only serve as a pretext for assaults resulting in more harm to innocent civilians. On the international stage, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are engaged in a war of words over Israel’s offensive against Hamas. Trudeau calls for restraint, highlighting the global spotlight on the conflict, while Netanyahu places the blame squarely on Hamas, emphasizing the need for accountability.
