New Delhi: On Saturday, there was an earthquake, in the capital city. It measured 2.6 on the Richter scale. The National Center for Seismology quickly shared the information on a social media platform called X. They stated, “There was an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 that occurred on November 11 2023, at 15:36:53 IST. It happened at latitude 28.80. Longitude 77.20 with a depth of 10 kilometers in North District, Delhi, India.”
This recent earthquake comes shortly after one with a magnitude of 5.6 hit Nepal last week. The tremors from that quake were felt in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). This follows another earthquake measuring 6.4 in Nepal, which resulted in the loss of lives and injuries. It was the most devastating quake since 2015. The epicenter of this earthquake on November 3 was located in Nepal at a depth of ten kilometers causing residents in Delhi NCR to quickly evacuate buildings due to the shaking.
The ongoing seismic activity in this region has raised concerns as multiple earthquakes have affected Nepal. Had an impact on the Delhi NCR area recently. On November 7, three separate earthquakes with magnitudes above four struck the Jajarkot region in Nepal. Caused injuries to, about sixteen people.
Authorities revealed that ten individuals were harmed in Rukum West and an additional six sustained injuries, in Jajarkot.
The recurring tremors serve as a reminder of the susceptibility of regions to earthquakes, highlighting the need for increased preparedness and monitoring. Although minor earthquakes occur frequently, their repeated incidence raises inquiries about the forces at play and the potential, for more substantial seismic activity.
