Mumbai: Parag Desai, a 56-year-old businessman, died on Sunday, days after he was attacked by a pack of stray dogs outside his residence in Mumbai, India.

Desai was returning home from work on Friday evening when he was attacked by the dogs. He was bitten several times on his legs and arms. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

However, Desai’s condition deteriorated over the next few days and he died on Sunday.

Desai’s death has sparked outrage and concern in Mumbai about the growing problem of stray dogs.

“Very sad news coming in. Parag Desai, Director and owner Wagh Bakri Tea passed away. he had a brain haemorrhage following a fall. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Wagh Bakri family across India”, wrote Shaktisinh Gohil, Raja Sabha member from Gujarat.

Stray dog attacks are a common occurrence in Mumbai. In 2022, there were over 10,000 reported cases of stray dog bites in the city.

The city government has taken some steps to address the problem, such as sterilizing stray dogs and setting up dedicated shelters for them. However, more needs to be done to reduce the number of stray dog attacks.

In addition to the safety concerns, stray dogs also pose a health hazard. They can carry diseases such as rabies and leptospirosis.

The government and animal welfare organizations need to work together to develop a comprehensive plan to address the problem of stray dogs in Mumbai.
