Bhopal: Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav expressed his dissatisfaction with the Congress’s refusal to form an alliance in Madhya Pradesh. He criticized the Congress for advocating a caste-based census calling it a move.

Yadav, who is part of the INDIA alliance, justified his party’s support for the caste census by highlighting the importance of gaining support from castes for success. He stated, “It’s interesting that the same Congress party didn’t provide caste census numbers before. It’s surprising because now it is clear that without the support of castes, success is unlikely.” He suggested that Congress was targeting votes that were no longer in their favor.

Yadav’s recent criticism comes after the Congress claimed that the INDIA alliance consisting of 28 opposition parties against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is intended for politics rather than regional elections. The disagreement arose when the Samajwadi Party objected to Congress’s list of 144 candidates alleging that they were promised six seats which were not fulfilled.

Akhilesh Yadav cautioned that the INDIA coalition would struggle to overcome the BJP if this state of uncertainty continued. He emphasized the magnitude of the task in the 2024 elections underscoring the BJP’s organizational prowess and emphasizing the need for a cohesive and unambiguous strategy to effectively counter it.

Yadav’s frustrations with the Congress’s actions were evident when he accused the party of “betrayal,” stating that despite assurances during a late-night meeting, the Congress fielded a candidate in a constituency that the Samajwadi Party had won in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh elections. In response to these developments, Akhilesh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party proceeded to announce their own list of candidates.
