Bhopal: As the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections draw near, a heated exchange of allegations and counter-allegations is unfolding. In the latest development, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has issued a stern warning to officials in the Finance Department, urging them to remain vigilant. Singh has alleged that data manipulation is underway to serve the BJP’s political agenda, cautioning officials that should the Congress government come to power, a thorough investigation will be conducted. Those found responsible will face the consequences.
Singh, a former Chief Minister and current Rajya Sabha MP, has made a substantial claim against the Finance Department, asserting that 137 schemes have been abruptly halted. He contends that government funds are being redirected, without announcement, towards the BJP’s election priorities at the expense of critical schemes. Singh underscores the need for vigilance among the Finance Department’s officers, given the state’s economic situation. He alleges that top officials in the department are exacerbating the already fragile financial condition of the state by manipulating data to advance the BJP’s election agenda. Singh argues that crucial expenditures are being sidelined to divert government funds for political purposes, thereby creating significant liabilities for the future.
Singh goes on to claim, “I have received information that senior officers are pressuring lower-ranking officers to draft arbitrary documents for this purpose.” He further alleges that the Finance Department has unofficially utilized funds from various departmental allocations for the government’s electoral priorities. As a result, the actual state debt is substantially higher than what the Finance Department has reported.
The brewing controversy sets the stage for a potentially contentious electoral battle in Madhya Pradesh, with allegations of financial impropriety at the forefront of political discourse.
