Washington: On Monday, Bill and Melinda Gates publicly announced that they are parting ways after having spent 27 years together as a married couple. Bill who is 65 years old is currently the 4th richest person in the world with a $146 billion net worth. Melinda who is 56 was a former Microsoft manager and currently runs ‘bill and Melinda gates’ foundation along with bill gates that have given away $50 billion+ in charities.

Taking to their Twitter accounts, Bill and Melinda wrote, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life”.

While they continue to share their philanthropic views and vouch to work together towards the betterment of society, the assets that they own are now at stake. They have $164 billion worth and now that will be distributed amongst them under the jurisdiction. It is yet to be seen how the assets get divided among them.
