“Requests to Centre to allot 7,000 of 10,000 beds in view of severe Covid cases”: CM Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday painted a grim picture of the escalating Covid crisis in the capital, saying it was turning quite serious and the city was facing a shortage of beds despite making efforts to increase availability.

In the past 24 hours, the city recorded 24,375 fresh cases and 167 deaths, he said. The positivity rate has now crossed 24%, meaning that one in every four persons being tested for the infection is turning out to be positive.

Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the positivity rate of Covid-19 tests in the national capital has increased to 30 per cent from 24 per cent in the last 24 hours.

Delhi has reported more than 100 deaths in a day for four consecutive days — 104 on Wednesday, 112 on Thursday, 141 on Friday and a fresh high of 167 on Saturday.

Arvind further said “There are 10,000 beds in Delhi, including that of central govt. Of which, 1,800 beds are currently reserved for Covid. I request Centre to allot 7,000 of 10,000 beds in view of severe Covid cases”

Meanwhile, India has reported 2,61,500 new COVI-19 cases, 1,501 fatalities and 1,38,423 discharges in the last 24 hours
