Big B Felicitated with FIAF Award; Martin and Nolan Praise the Veteran Indian Superstar

Bollywood: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) award by filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan via a virtual ceremony on Friday(19 March).

Mr Bachchan is the first Indian veteran actor to be honoured with this award appreciating in contribution in preserving India’s Film Heritage. He was nominated by film archivist and restorer Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, who is also the founder of Film Heritage Foundation.

The event was live-streamed on the YouTube channel of the Film Heritage Foundation and was presided over by International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) secretary-general Michael Loebenstein and president Frederic Maire.

What did Scorsese and Nolan say about Big B?

Martin Scorsese expressed his delight over the federation awarding Big B. He said, “Safeguardingcinema is a global cause with champions all over the world and Amitabh Bachchan’s advocacy for preserving India’s film heritage, really has been exceptional.” Christopher Nolan, another senior FIAF awardee reminisced his visit to Mumbai in 2018. 

How did Big B react?

The actual award was presented to Amitabh Bachchan by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur in Mumbai. The actor said that he was deeply honoured to have received the award; he has been working with the foundation since 2015. His Twitter handle flooded with appreciations after he shared some pictures of the ceremony.

He wrote, “Deeply honoured to have been conferred the 2021 FIAF Award. Thank you FIAF, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan for bestowing the award on me in the ceremony today. Modern technology is praised. Connected virtually to rest of the World simultaneously.”
