Farmers Protest: Delhi court on Monday sent the 22-year-old climate activist to one-day police custody. Ms. Ravi was arrested by the Delhi Police from Bengaluru on the 13th of February, after which she also faced three-day judicial custody. The Delhi police alleged Ms. Ravi, Ms. Nikita, and Shantanu Muluk of collaborating with the pro-Khalistan group Poetic Justice Foundation.
Disha had filed her bail plea last week and said that the ‘toolkit’ was merely a “resource document” and did not “show disaffection.” During her hearing last week Public Prosecutor, Vikas Singh said that police custody is not a punishment, rather beneficial for Ms. Ravi. He said they need the co-accused to be confronted for a factual disclosure.
The accused’s lawyer, Mr. Siddharth Agarwal opposed the police’s demand saying she had already conveyed all the facts in the earlier remand application. The judge posed some acrimonious questions to the police, asking if it was only acting on” surmises, influences and conjecture” and questioned how the toolkit was tethered to the violence on the Republic day.
While the other 2 accused have been granted a pre-arrest bail, Disha’s bail plea is pending before the Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana, who is expected to pass an order today (Tuesday).
