Raipur: Chhattisgarh police have constituted its first-ever women band in the Maoist-hit region of Bastar. The newly constituted band presented its first performance before the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel. The band presented their performance in honor of the Chief Minister during his visit to Bastar and Dantewada.
According to a press release from the Bastar Police sources, the Chief Minister was awe-struck and delighted seeing the performance of the band, and lauded it highly.
As per the Inspector General of Police of Bastar Region Sundar Raj P’s statement – “Women commandos of Bastar police have shown exemplary courage during anti-Maoist operations, in crime investigation and other law and order matters”.
He also asserted – “We wanted our women colleagues to perform better on the field without any discrimination. Gender equality will be propagated within the force and formation of Chhattisgarh’s first women police band is another step in this direction”.
Notably, coordinating with their male counterparts, the women band these days is playing a total of 12 patriotic songs. “Earlier, the bands used to play on special occasions. But now, it has turned out to be a new step towards creating gender equality. Such gender sensitive initiative will help create progressive and gender discrimination-free society”, said the IG, Bastar.
On the other hand, a special all-women commando unit of Chhattisgarh Police has been deployed in Dantewada, against the Naxalites. The unit has been named ‘Danteshwari Ladake”.
