Nepal’s PM Oli Expresses his Gratitude Towards India, for Providing Covid-19 Vaccine

World: After India dispatched one million Covid vaccine doses to Nepal, Prime Minister Oli has expressed his gratitude towards India for providing one million doses of Covishield vaccine within a week of its rollout in India.

“We got an early chance to administer Covid-19 vaccine. For this, I extend my thanks and gratitude to our neighbor India’s Govt, its people, and especially PM Modi. They sent us a vaccine within about a week of its rollout in India, that too one million doses and in grant”, said Nepal PM Oli.

Addressing in a virtual inauguration ceremony of nationwide immunization drive against COVID-19 from Baluwatar, Oli also announced that Nepal has received a million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from India, the Himalayan nation is set to start an inoculation drive against the infection that would be completed within three months.

Nepal has administered its first coronavirus vaccinations for medical workers who are fighting against the Covid-19 infection, from 62 hospitals and 120 vaccination centers across the country.

Last week, the Government of India gifted a million doses of the ‘Covishied’ vaccines to Nepal. The vaccine was jointly developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca — a British-Swedish pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company. It has been branded as ‘Covishield’ in India and is produced by the Serum Institute of India.

In the last few days, India has sent consignments of domestically produced coronavirus vaccines under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
