New Delhi: The Government denied permission to the protesting farmers to hold a tractor rally on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road on January 26, on the occasion of Republic Day.

Speaking to the media after Thursday’s meeting, Darshan Pal of the Krantikari Kisan Union said that “the government has not given nod for the tractor rally on Republic Day on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road due to security reasons, but the farmers are firm to their demands.”

Farmers and senior Delhi Police officials met once again on Thursday, ahead of the agitating farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day, to discuss the route and preparations.

“The government has said that tractor parade on Republic Day can’t be conducted on Delhi’s Outer Ring Road, due to security reasons. We’re clear that we’ll conduct the tractor parade there only. After tomorrow’s meeting with the Centre, we’ll hold another meeting with the police,” Darshan Pal of the Krantikari Kisan Union said.

Farmers have been protesting against the three contentious farm laws at several locations along the Delhi border since late November. They have announced to hold the tractor rally in Delhi on January 26.

The Supreme Court, in response to the Centre’s plea, had refused to intervene in the matter and said that the Delhi Police was the authority.
