The news of the sudden death of over 100 crows in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase III area has stirred panic in the national capital amid a nationwide bird flu scare. As the panic ensued, a team of doctors rushed to the A-2 Central Park on Friday after hundreds of crows reportedly fell dead in flight.
A source from Delhi Chief Minister’s office revealed that four samples were collected, of which three were from Mayur Vihar and Hastsal district, and one was collected from Dwarka, were sent for testing to investigate for Avian Influenza or Bird Flu.
According to the park caretaker Tinku Chowdhary, about 15-20 crows died on Saturday morning. “Just today morning, around 15-20 crows died, and in the last three-four days, at least 100 have died. A team from the Delhi Government came to inspect the birds and took five samples for testing in Jalandhar”, Chowdhary added. He further said that the dead crows were buried in the park itself, and a continuous sanitization was going on in the park.
Unusual mortality of poultry, crows, migratory birds has been reported from Kerala, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, but all other states have sounded alarm bells as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Residents Welfare Association has accused the administration of negligence, claiming that the crows have been dying for the past three days now.
