Uttar pradesh:  The Yogi government, angry with the officials accused of the Muradnagar crematorium ghat accident in Ghaziabad, has taken exemplary action against them. The government has imposed a National Security Act against municipal executive officer Niharika Singh, supervisor Ashish, junior engineer Chandrapal, and additional contractor Ajay Tyagi. Contextually, the police had announced a reward of Rs.25,000/- on the quest of absconder Ajay Tyagi.

Besides the ones who are already arrested, further investigations may drag many other officials into the case, including the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, the Commissioner. The government, however, has already assured the families of the deceased people Rs. 10 lakhs and government jobs.

Notably, at least 24 people were killed and around 30 were severely injured after the roof of a crematorium at Ukhlarsi village under Muradnagar municipality in Ghaziabad collapsed on Sunday. People came there to attend the funeral, while they took shelter under the roof because it was raining outside.

The accused officials were booked under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees).

Several political leaders, including PM Modi and President Kovind, expressed their condolences and thoughts to the families of the deceased people. Prime Minister Modi, in his tweet, wrote – “Extremely saddened by the news of the unfortunate accident in Muradnagar. The state government is engaged in relief and rescue work. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident, and also wish the injured well soon”. (translated from Hindi)
