Jashpur: An Army jawan, known as Anshuman Toppo, along with his two friends, has been accused of gangraping a minor girl in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district. In addition to that, the army-man allegedly created immense mental pressure on the victim to make her illegally abort the fetus. Police have already taken the two companions of Anshuman into custody and sent a team to J&K to arrest the main accused, who is currently posted in the UT.

The victim, a 17-year-old girl, raised a complaint which narrates how the three accused people, on September 10, forced her to come to them by keeping her uncle at a gun-point. Later, they kidnapped her to a deserted area, raped her one by one, and threatened not to inform the police. Within a few days, the soldier, having a ‘government job’, reached her place again and promised to marry her once she is 18, and convinced her to live with his mother.

Jashpur DSP Manish Kawar stated, “They were afraid she could go to the police, so they often stalked her. The three accused conspired to lure her into a secure relationship to prevent her from revealing anything about the incident”.

After living in the same house for a month, Anshuman left for J&K to join his unit. But by that time, the girl was pregnant. His family, being worried about the police case, forced her to consume papaya juice which killed her 2-month-old fetus. The death of the fetus made her raise her voice, while by the time, Anshuman allegedly ceased all contact with her.
