Bastar: 8 Maoists, among whom 4 were involved in the assassination of Bheema Mandavi last year, have surrendered to the police in the Dantewada district located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. The BJP MLA was assassinated last year in April. As per the police report, the Maoists expressed their disappointment towards the hollow CPI ideology while surrendering. 

Each of the surrendered Maoists was provided with instant assistance of Rs. 10,000/- cash, along with other facilities mentioned under the “Lon Varratu”, the surrender and rehabilitation policy launched by the Chhattisgarh government.

Notably, a total of 226 Maoists have surrendered under this policy since June. Regarding the policy, the Chhattisgarh police declared, “We have started a drive ‘Lon Varratu’ which has been very successful in Dantewada district and till now a total of 226 Maoists have surrendered in the district”.

“Eight Maoists surrendered on Monday evening under our drive which is called ‘Lon Varratu’. Out of these eight, Bhima Barse (28), Sona Tati (20), Madka Barse (21), and Pitte Alias (35) were among the Maoists involved in the killing of MLA Mandavi”, stated Abhishek Pallava, Superintendent of Police, Dantewada. Pallava further added, “The others who surrendered are Aytu Bhaskar (25), section commander in platoon number 13 of Maoists, Raju Karam (25), head of Chetna Natya Mandil and Mahesh Kumar Doli”.
