Farmers Boycott Government-Served Lunch During the Meeting at Vigyan Bhawan

New Delhi: The 4th round of discussion over the new farm laws was held between the central government and the farmers at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan this afternoon.

Amidst this, the farmer unions refused the food and beverages served by the Government. “We are not accepting food or tea offered by the government. We have brought our own food, we will eat that,” – stated a farmer leader during the lunch break.

During the talk between the Centre and the representatives of farmers, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomarand the Union Minister Piyush Goyal represented the Centre.

Tomar expressed hope for some ‘positive outcome’ while talking to the media before the 4th round of dialogue began, saying – “Government is constantly discussing issues with farmers. Today is the fourth round of talks and I’m hoping for a positive outcome”.

Notably, the farmer leaders have already warned that the talks on Thursday are the ‘last chance’ for the government to make a decision.

“Thursday is the last chance for the government to take a decision to repeal the laws. Otherwise, this movement will become huge and the government will fall,” – stated Pratibha Shinde, a member of the Lok Sangharsh Morcha.

Meanwhile, 2 farmers hailing from Moga and Mansa districts died on Wednesday while participating in the agitation. Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has announced Rs. 5 lakhs of financial assistance to the families of each of the farmers.
