New Delhi: Ahmed Patel, the veteran Congress leader passed away in the wee hours of this morning. He died from a multi-organ failure, caused by the deadly COVID-19 virus.

 His son Faisal confirmed his demise in a Tweet, requesting all the well-wishers to hold fast to all the COVID-19 rules and regulations and to strictly avoid mass gatherings.

“With profound grief & sorrow, I regret to announce the sad & untimely demise of my father, Mr. Ahmed Patel at 25/11/2020, 03:30 AM. After testing positive for COVID-19 around a month back, his health worsened further due to multiple organ failures. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus, inshallah. I request all well-wishers to adhere to COVID-19 law & order regulations by avoiding any mass gatherings and to also maintain social distancing norms at all times.”

PM Modi also expressed his condolences through a Tweet, saying that the Congress veteran was well-known for his sharp mind, and his dedication in strengthening the Congress party will be remembered. 

Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President, condoled the sudden demise of the MP, saying she has lost someone who dedicated his entire life to the party and was an “irreplaceable comrade, a faithful colleague, and a friend”.
