Coronavirus : India nears the mark of 6 Million cases; Death toll rises to 93,000

New Delhi: India on Friday recorded 85,362 Covid cases, taking its complete caseload past the 5.9-million mark. The country also reported 1,089 deaths in last 24 hours.

The total case tally stands at 59,03,933 including 9,60,969 active cases, 48,49,585 recovered cases and 93,379 deaths.

The national daily positivity rate (or the percentage of tests that are positive) is 6.3 per cent. The national mortality rate has remained at 1.5 per cent. The recovery rate has inched up to 82 per cent.

The number of recoveries reported in the past 24 hours is around 93,000 as well, taking the total number of people who have fought off the virus past 48 lakh.

Among the states, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected in India with over 12 lakh coronavirus cases and nearly 35,000 deaths. Maharashtra is followed by Andhra Pradesh, which has over 6.5 lakh coronavirus cases and over 5,500 deaths.

In the interim, Kerala is seeing an abrupt flood in new cases. The state saw the highest single-day spike of 6,477 Covid cases on Friday, taking the disease count to 159,933. These states are worst-hit by Covid 19

On Saturday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said, “7,02,69,975 samples have been tested up to September 25 (Friday) for Covid-19. Of these, 13,41,535 samples were tested on Friday.”

The worldwide count of Covid cases remains at 32,743,339. While 24,163,980 have recouped, 992,886 have passed on up until now. The US, the worst-hit nation, 7,236,378 cases. It is followed by India, which has 5,901,571 cases, Brazil (4,692,579) and Russia (1,136,048).
