New Delhi: India on Wednesday recorded 89,688 Covid cases, taking its total caseload to 5,730,184. India has included more than 1,000 deaths consistently for 24 days.
The death toll climbed from 90,020 to 91,149 during the same period, latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare suggested.
India has reported large outbreaks of COVID-19 in certain districts and only 10 states are currently contributing to 75 per cent of the active cases in the country, which suggests that coronavirus is still limited in its spread, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
For the sixth consecutive day, the number of recoveries surpassed the number of fresh cases on Thursday with 87,374 people recovering from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi led a significant level video conference with Chief ministers and health ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Punjab. During the gathering he declared that states can burn through 50 percent of the state disaster relief fund (SDRF) sum on endeavors to check the spread of Covid-19.
Modi inquired as to whether lockdowns of a couple of days are compelling in containing Covid-19 and instructed them to go ahead with original capacity in opening economic activities while battling the infection.
Globally, over 31.7 million people have been infected while 975,163 have succumbed to the virus. Also, 21,889,533 people have recovered so far.
