Uttar Pradesh: A 17-year-old Dalit young girl was found dead outside her town in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri, raped and killed after she had left home to fill out a scholarship application, police have said.

This is the second such case from the locale in 10 days after a 13-year-old was also raped and strangled in the territory.

The police had initially said the girl appeared to have been killed with a sharp weapon and that she had sustained injuries to her neck. Her mutilated body was found near a dried-up pond, around 200 metres from her village, the cops added.

According to her kin, she was a student of Class 12 and had gone to a neighbouring town on Monday to fill a scholarship form. At the point when she didn’t come back, they informed the police.

Speaking to the media, her uncle stated “I truly don’t have the foggiest idea what to state or whom to speculate. She left around 8.30 AM on Monday. We don’t suspect anybody.”

The SP said police teams under the supervision of the extra superintendent have been formed to work out the case. He said examining teams have gathered some vital clues and the killers will be arrested soon.

On August 15, a 13-year-old girl was raped and her body was found in a sugarcane field that has a place with one of the accused. Two men from her town have been arrested.

Her father alleged his girl had been choked, and had her eyes gouged out and her tongue cut off however police denied the same.
