Coronavirus: India crosses 28 lakh mark; records highest single day spurt with 70,000 cases
NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday record highest spike of nearly 70,000 cases in a single day. The total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India has mounted to 28,36,925.
On Thursday morning, the health ministry data said India reported 69,652 new cases in the last 24 hours —- biggest one-day spike recorded so far. Maharashtra accounted for 13,000 fresh cases alone for the first time.

The death toll from the COVID-19 virus spiraled to 977 in the last 24 hours. Coronavirus killed 53,866 people in the country so far. Maharashtra recorded 346 deaths on Wednesday. Globally, India stands at 4th position in death toll.
The number of active coronavirus patients in the country stood at 6,86,395. Nearly 74% of the total coronavirus patients are recovered from the infection since the outbreak. The recoveries increased to 20,96,664 on Thursday after 58,794 people recovered in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 13,165 new COVID-19 cases, highest one-day count, taking its tally to 6,28,642, while 346 fresh deaths pushed the toll beyond the 21,000-mark, a health official said.

Meanwhile,the head of leading private laboratory claimed that at least one in four people in India may have been infected with the coronavirus – a much higher number than official government figures suggest. Dr. A. Velumani said an analysis of 270,000 antibody tests conducted by his company Thyrocare across India showed the presence of antibodies in an average of 26 percent of the people, indicating they had already been exposed to the coronavirus.
Global death toll stands at 7,91,002 and caseload stands at 22,579,095.
