New Delhi: India has crossed another bleak milestone on Friday, recorded over 24 lakh cases of coronavirus pandemic so far. On Thursday, India reported 64,553 coronavirus cases in the previous 24 hours, taking its total to 2,461,190.

With more than 1,000 fatalities given an account of Thursday, the nation’s death toll flooded to 48,144. India, the third-most-influenced nation by absolute cases and fourth by loss of life, has included 4,33,556 cases in the previous 7 days alone.

The recovery rate, however, improved to 70.77 per cent Thursday with the total number of patients recuperating from the virus reaching nearly 17 lakh, while the case fatality rate has further declined to 1.96 per cent, the Union health ministry said.

The five most affected Indian states in coronavirus count are Maharashtra (560,126), Tamil Nadu (320,355), Andhra Pradesh (264,142), Karnataka (203,200), and Delhi (1,49,460). Coronavirus count in West Bengal has crossed the 100,000-mark with 2,931 new contaminations.
