Raipur: On Tuesday, Chhattisgarh recorded as many as 277 new cases and new deaths. With this, the state has crossed another grim milestone of 8000 mark, since the first case was detected on March 18, a health official said.

On a brighter side, Chhattisgarh’s recovery cases has reached to 5439. With this, the recovery rate of the state is higher than that of the nation, comprised 65.8%.

Of the new cases, Raipur alone has recorded over 138 cases on Tuesday, followed by Rajnandgaon(20), Durg (19), Bilaspur & Bastar each reported 18 cases, 11 cases registered from Narayanpur, Raigarh and Balodabazar recorded 8 cases each While Sarguja & Gariyaband have 6 cases and so on.

Meanwhile, a 63 year old female from Durg died on Tuesday. She had been suffering from cancer for 2 years now. The cause of death as per the report was cancer and Covid-19 infection as co-morbidity. With this, the death toll in Chhattisgarh surged to 46 fatalities.

Amid continuous surge in the covid-19 cases, the State Government has decided to extend the lockdown in the most affected districts to 6th August. Presently, about 15 districts are under complete lockdown which ends today has been extended for a week, including Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Dantewada and others.

Chhattisgarh has recorded 8257 Covid-19 cases so far with 2772 active cases and 5439 patients cured. While, 46 people have succumbed to the virus.

All the districts have been affected from the pandemic outbreak in the state with atleast 1 active case. Raipur has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 2504 confirmed infections, followed by Durg(654), Bilaspur(620), Rajnandgaon(581), Janjgir-jhampa(414) and so on.
