Coronavirus: Fatality rate of Covid-19 in India drops to 2.28 percent, says government

The coronavirus pandemic is still affecting millions of people worldwide. Globally, 16,426,919 people have been infected with the virus, 653,353 have lost their lives and 9,531,059 have recovered.

Earlier in India, the fatality rate was approx. 3%, but currently, the fatality rate has come down to 2.28% according to the Health ministry data. 

The total deaths due to coronavirus in India is 33,425 with 654 fatalities recorded in a day. The recovery rate is also constantly increasing and total recoveries has crossed the mark of nine lakhs. India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world. 

The number of recovered patients now stands at 9,52,744 with the recovery rate at 64 percent. The number of recovered cases exceeds the number of active cases in the nation which is a good sign for the citizens of India. 

With a record single-day jump of 47,704 COVID-19 cases, India’s caseload climbed to 14,83,157 on Monday, while recoveries surged to 9,52,744, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The focused efforts of the Centre, state governments and Union Territory administrations on early detection and isolation through aggressive testing and efficient clinical management of hospitalised cases have shown results with continuously falling case fatality rate and improving recovery rate, the health ministry said. 

Meanwhile, the government has at least five sites ready across four states for late-stage human clinical trials expected by the end of this year for several Covid-19 vaccine candidates, including those developed by the University of Oxford, Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech.
