NEW DELHI: The increasing number of coronavirus cases has posed a big concern for India. The number of deaths has been on the rise since the first death recorded on 12th March. India on Friday reported its highest single-day jump in coronavirus cases in the past 24-hour.
As per union health ministry data, India reported 27,114 new cases of coronavirus. The country has also witnessed another high in new deaths with 273 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
Overall, India’s coronavirus cases tally has now surged to 8,20,916, out of which 2,83,407 are active cases. On a brighter side, 5,15,386 patients have been recovered from the disease. The total recovery now stands at 62.7%. This was the third day in a row for over 19,000 patients to get cured of the virus.
Out of 27,114, Maharashtra has recorded over 7800 new cases, continued to add the highest number of COVID-19 cases. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also witnessed another surge in new cases with 3680 and 2313 fresh cases respectively.
The death toll in India reached 22,123. The states recorded 519 fatalities in last 24 hours. Out of 519, Maharashtra alone accounted for 44% of the deaths.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with 2,38,461 cases. Out of the total cases in the state, 1,32,625 have recovered from the coronavirus disease and 95,943 are still active. The state has reported a total of 9,893 deaths so far.
tamil Nadu continues to struggle in containing the virus as more new positive cases emerged in the state on Friday. The total number of cases in the state has rose to 1,30,261. The death toll in the state has inches to 1900.
The condition in Delhi has deteriorated in the last 24 hours as 2089 new cases were reported. Delhi is the third state to record over 1,00,000 coronavirus cases after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Currently, Delhi’s total number of coronavirus cases is 1,09,140 with 3,300 death toll.
On Friday, UP reported 1338 new cases, taking the total tally to 33,700. With 27 new fatalities in the state, 889 people have succumbed to the disease till now.
According to the death toll of the states, Maharashtra (9893), Delhi (3300), Gujarat (2022), Tamil Nadu (1829) and Uttar Pradesh (889) are the top 5 states reporting maximum deaths.
Meanwhile, ICMR ramped up the testing capacity for detecting the novel coronavirus in the country. “At least 2,82,511 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested thus far is 1.13 crore,” the health ministry said on Saturday.
Globally, coronavirus infected over 1.2 crore and the death toll has reached over 5,50,000, as per the World Health Organisation. India is at the third position among the countries severely affected by coronavirus pandemic.
