Puthupally: Chandy Oommen, the dynamic son of the late illustrious Congress figure, Oommen Chandy, has made history by securing the Puthuppally assembly seat in Kerala with an outstanding margin of over 36,000 votes in the recently held bypoll on Friday. This significant victory not only retains the stronghold of the Congress-UDF alliance in the region but also sees Chandy Oommen surpassing the voting margin record previously held by his father in the constituency.
Emerging as a formidable force since the initial stages of the vote counting, Oommen maintained a decisive lead that his nearest competitor, the ruling LDF candidate Jaick C Thomas, could not overcome in the subsequent rounds. His impressive performance shadowed his father’s erstwhile record margin of 33,255 votes in the same constituency, a seat that the late Oommen Chandy graced for over five remarkable decades of dedicated service.
