Kanpur: The notorious gangster of Uttar pradesh, Vikas Dubey, accused of killing eight policemen in Kanpur last week, was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain after a nearly week-long chase involving three states police.
CCTV footage showed Vikas Dubey, in a mask, being taken away by half a dozen cops. Vikas Dubey was caught in Ujjain around the same time two of his aides were killed in separate encounters in UP.
According to the police officials, Vikas Dubey was spotted at Mahakal temple around 8 am. He was busy buying prayer offerings to take inside the temple when the shopkeeper recognized him and reportedly alerted the temple guards. When he emerged from the temple, the guards suspected and questioned him.
He first provided a fake ID card of a much younger man. When nudged further, he hit out at the guards, who dragged him to the police station.
“Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala,” (I am Vikas Dubey, the one from Kanpur) he shouted out, when he was beaten while being taken to the police van.
Earlier, UP Police had raised the bounty on fugitive gangster Vikas Dubey from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This cames hours after police raided a hotel in Faridabad where Vikas Dubey was spotted.
On Wednesday, a close aide of Vikas Dubey, identified as Amar Dubey, was killed in an encounter in Hamirpur by the Uttar Pradesh STF that is investigating the case.
Both Vikas Dubey and Amar Dubey were involved in the killing of 8 police personnel during an encounter in Kanpur last week. The gangster and his accomplices ambushed the police team and killed 8 cops, including a DSP.
