Cairo: Amanpreet Singh of India won the gold medal in the men’s 25m standard pistol event at the ISSF World Championships 2023 in Cairo, Egypt. The 25-year-old shooter scored 245.5 points to finish ahead of China’s Lihao Sheng (227.7) and Serbia’s Damir Mikec (223.1).

This is India’s first gold medal in the 25m standard pistol event at the ISSF World Championships. Amanpreet had previously won a bronze medal in the event at the 2018 Asian Games.

Amanpreet was in fine form throughout the competition, shooting consistently high scores. He was particularly impressive in the final, where he held his nerve to secure the gold medal.

The win is a major boost for Amanpreet and Indian shooting ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is now one of the favorites to win a medal in the event at the Games.

Amanpreet’s gold medal is India’s fifth at the ongoing ISSF World Championships. The other four medals have been won by Saurabh Chaudhary (gold in 10m air pistol), Abhishek Verma (silver in 10m air pistol), Elavenil Valarivan (silver in 10m air rifle), and Divyansh Singh Panwar (bronze in 10m air rifle).

The ISSF World Championships is the most prestigious shooting competition in the world. The 2023 edition is being held in Cairo from August 21 to 28.
