Pulwama: An encounter broke out between the security forces and militants in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, confirmed the zonal police. On social media platform X, Kashmir Police said “encounter has started in Larrow-Parigam area of Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Details shall follow”.

Sources have confirmed that two terrorists have been killed so far in the encounter. One of the deceased is believed to be the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s top commander. Bodies of the terrorists have not been recovered yet.

The operation was launched in the Larrow-Parigam area after the security forces received intelligence-based input about the movement of militants in Parigam village of the district. This comes two weeks after a terrorist was killed in an encounter in the Rajouri district. Based on the intelligence input, a joint operation by the Armys Rashtriya Rifles and J&K Police launched on August 5 after three Army Personnel were killed in encounter with militants in Kulgam district on August 4.

Security forces have also launched a cordon and search operation in the higher reaches of the Halan forest area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir following inputs about the presence of militants there.
