Dehradun: Relentless rainfall, in Himachal Pradesh has tragically resulted in a death toll of 74 with flash floods and landslides wreaking havoc across the state. One of the incidents occurred at the Shiva temple in Summer Hill, Fagli and Krishnanagar where a catastrophic landslide claimed the lives of 21 individuals. Rescue operations are still underway to locate eight people buried under the debris.

Uttarakhand is also facing the wrath of Mother Nature. Continuous rains have caused swelling of the Pranmati river in Chamoli district prompting officials to issue warnings to residents in areas.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited some of the hit regions in Mandi district on Thursday to assess the situation. In Rishikesh Uttarakhand authorities had to restrict pedestrian and two wheeler movement on Ram Jhula Bridge due to damage caused by the Ganga Rivers rampage.

Amidst these disasters rescue and relief efforts are being carried out tirelessly. In Dehradun heavy rainfall has led to submerged homes in Kaluwala prompting action, from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to assist residents. At the time rescue operations continue in landslide stricken areas of Shimla, Summer Hill.

During a press conference Chief Minister Sukhu expressed his worries regarding the delay, in receiving relief funds from the government. He provided an account of how the relief funds were being distributed and stressed the need for additional assistance considering the current situation.

Furthermore there are concerns as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts rainfall in Uttarakhand in the upcoming days. Surender Paul, a scientist, from IMD based in Himachal commented on the monsoon season experienced this year.
