Shimla: Over the 48 hours, helicopters from the Western Air Command have been tirelessly working to carry out more than 50 rescue missions in the flood-affected areas of Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Their efforts have successfully saved 780 individuals who were stranded due to the floods.

On August 16, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, took a tour to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods in Indora and Fatehpur which are located within Kangra district. This flight provided him with an understanding of both evacuation efforts in areas affected by water overflowing from the Pong reservoir and broader relief measures being implemented.

During his visit to relief camps in Damtal and Shekhpura, Chief Minister Sukhu personally met with displaced residents to listen to their needs and concerns. He expressed his sympathies. Assured them that the government would provide all support to ensure their well-being during these challenging times. The Chief Minister was deeply concerned about property damage, infrastructure loss and tragic loss of lives caused by monsoon rains in the upper parts of Himachal.

Recognizing the importance of compassionate relief measures, Chief Minister Sukhu instructed officials to ensure that those seeking refuge in camps receive proper care, shelter and necessary supplies. He emphasized the significance of addressing the situation and providing assistance to aid individuals in navigating these challenges and initiating the journey of rebuilding their lives.
