Hyderabad: IMD-Hyderabad has issued a concerning red alert on Monday evening, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in various districts of Telangana for the upcoming three days until Friday, July 28th.

While Tuesday is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall with an orange alert, the situation worsens from Wednesday to Friday, with the MET Centre in Hyderabad announcing a red alert for multiple districts. The districts on high alert include Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy.

Further orange alert warnings have been issued for Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon, Siddipet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Mahabubnagar.

Nagaratna, the Director of IMD-Hyderabad, warned that Telangana is likely to witness widespread rainfall across most areas in the next 4 to 5 days. The prevailing weather patterns indicate the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the West Central Bay and adjoining regions. This system is expected to intensify and bring strong winds towards low-pressure areas over the next 24 hours, extending up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level.

Given the red alert situation, authorities are concerned about potential hazards such as extensive water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, traffic congestion, and wet and slippery conditions. There is a heightened risk of trees and electric poles getting uprooted, which could lead to disruptions in electricity and water supply. Additionally, the heavy rainfall might cause drainage clogging and create social disturbances for a few hours.
