Raipur- In Chhattisgarh, farmers are embracing new avenues of income generation alongside traditional farming practices. Encouraged by the government schemes implemented by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, individuals like Gopalak Shatruhan Sahu from Kampa village are now reaping the benefits of additional revenue streams through the dairy business.

Previously engaged in farming, Sahu faced challenges due to inadequate irrigation facilities, resulting in relatively low crop production and a strained financial situation for his family. Seeking better opportunities within his rural community, he connected with an official from the Livestock Development Department, who advised him to venture into the dairy business for additional income.

Motivated by this suggestion, Sahu embarked on his journey by starting with just two milch cows, initially generating an income of Rs 20. As he gained experience and knowledge, Sahu’s business expanded. In the 2021-22 fiscal year, the Livestock Department approved his dairy unit under the State Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme.

With the support of the animal department and the local gaushala organisation, Sahu learned to care for the cows and provide them with proper nutrition and maintenance. Gradually, he accumulated a group of high-quality native cows and observed a significant improvement in their productivity and milk quantity. Not only were the cows healthier, but the quality of their milk was also enhanced.

Now equipped with a reliable source of milk, Sahu established a network to sell his pure and high-quality product at a fair price, bridging the gap between rural and urban customers. He focused on maintaining the integrity of his milk, ensuring customer satisfaction. Sahu’s economic condition improved as his milk business flourished, enabling him to provide his family with better education, healthcare, and financial security.
