Lviv: A Russian missile attack on a residential apartment block in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv killed at least four people including an infant and injured more than 30 on Thursday, officials said.

The attack, which took place in the early hours of the morning, also destroyed or damaged about 60 apartments and 50 cars.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said the attack was the largest on the city’s civilian infrastructure since the beginning of Russia’s invasion last year.

“This is a deliberate attack on civilians,” Sadovyi said. “There was no military target here.”

The missiles that struck Lviv were fired from the Black Sea, according to Ukrainian officials.

The attack came as Western leaders were meeting in Germany for a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations.

G7 leaders condemned the attack and called on Russia to stop its indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

“We are appalled by the Russian missile strike on Lviv,” the G7 leaders said in a statement. “This is a clear violation of international law and an act of aggression against a sovereign state.”

The attack in Lviv is a reminder that the war in Ukraine is not just being fought on the front lines. Russian forces are also targeting civilian infrastructure in an effort to sow fear and chaos.

The latest attack comes as the war in Ukraine enters its fifth month. So far, the conflict has killed thousands of people and displaced millions more.

There is no end in sight to the war, and it is likely that Russia will continue to target civilian infrastructure in the coming months.

The international community must continue to pressure Russia to end the war and to protect civilians.
