New Delhi– The Delhi High Court has delayed its verdict on whether to consider the charge sheet presented against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a prominent BJP MP and outgoing chairman of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This case revolves around the accusation of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers. Initially slated for pronouncement on a Saturday, the matter is now scheduled for consideration on July 7. This delay comes in light of the city police’s submission that their investigation is still underway, and they anticipate filing a supplementary charge sheet.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal, presiding over the case, took note of the police’s statement and the fact that specific vital reports, including those from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Call Detail Record (CDR) analysis, are still awaited. These reports are crucial in corroborating and supporting the allegations made against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The case has garnered significant attention, with women wrestlers accusing the BJP MP of sexual harassment. The court’s decision on whether to take cognizance of the charge sheet is critical in determining the course of the legal proceedings.

The postponement indicates that the investigation is ongoing, and further evidence and findings might be included in a supplementary charge sheet before the court makes its final determination to conduct an unbiased and meticulous assessment of the accusations made.

There has been a deliberate decision by the court to defer pronouncing their verdict. This choice enables an extensive evaluation encompassing all essential evidence pertinent to this case. Given the gravity and sensitivity attached to these severe charges imposed on someone holding a high public profile, utmost care is exercised throughout proceedings so as not to rush or overlook any aspect before proceeding further with trial. The postponement until July 7 gives the police and legal authorities adequate time to finalize their investigation and present a complete and well-substantiated charge sheet to the court.
