Guwahati: With nearly 31000 people still reeling under deluge across 10 districts of Assam, an official said the flood situation in the state is serious. The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert and predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts.
“Heavy rainfall warning with expected impact and recommended action”, tweeted IMD mentioning heavy rainfall in Assam.
Red Alert signifies taking immediate action while Orange Alert implies to be prepared for an Action and Yellow Alert stands foe watch and be updates.
According to the flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in total 30,700 people are hit due to floods in Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri districts. No relief camp is operational as of now but the authorities have been running 25 relief distribution centers in 7 districts.
Lakhimpur district is the worst hit with over 22000 people affected, followed by Dibrigarh with more than 3800 people and Kokrajhar with almost 1800 persons. Kopili, a tributary of Brahmaputra, is flowing above the danger mark. 4741.23 hectares of cropland have been devastated and 444 villages are underwater, says ASDMA.
