New Delhi- In a significant development, IPS officer Ravi Sinha has been appointed as the new chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), replacing Samant Goel. Sinha, a 1988 batch IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, currently holds the position of second in command at the agency and has been heading its operational division for the past seven years.

Assuming the role during a crucial time, Sinha will face immediate challenges related to Sikh extremism and ethnic violence in Manipur. Samant Goel’s tenure will conclude on June 30, after which Sinha will take over the position for two years.

With his extensive experience and expertise, Ravi Sinha is highly regarded for understanding sensitive matters such as Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast region, and Left Wing Extremism (LWE). His appointment emphasizes the government’s emphasis on enhancing the operational capabilities of intelligence agencies.

It’s noteworthy that the Intelligence Bureau, the domestic intelligence agency, also has an office with an operations background at its helm. Sinha’s batchmate Tapan Deka leads the Intelligence Bureau after serving in its operations division for several years.

Ravi Sinha is known for incorporating modern technology into intelligence collection within RAW. This integration of technological and human intelligence dimensions will enable him to address the challenges of the present times effectively.
