MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee depriciated by 22 paise to close at 82.60 (provisional) against US dollar on Thursday. The local unit opened at 82.35 per dollar against previous close of 82.38.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 82.36 against the greenback, and finally settled at 82.59 (provisional), down 22 paise from its previous close.
During the day, the domestic currency touched a high of 82.35 and a low of 82.66 against the greenback.
The dollar index gained strength on the back of progress on the debt ceiling talks. It rose 0.21 per cent to 103.10. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.66 per cent to USD 76.45 per barrel.
Meanwhile, gold and silver prices plunged Rs 480 to Rs 60,070 per 10 grams and by Rs 530 to Rs 72,750 per kilogramme respectively.
