New Delhi: The undisputed leaders of food delivery segment, Swiggy and Zomato will soon have a third player as well. Ministry of Commerce and Industry have initiated the service called Open network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Incorporated in December 2021, it is not an application but a set of specifications designed to foster open unbundled and interoperable open networks to eliminate dependency on single platform.
It is now gaining popularity and is reported to deliver more than 10,000 daily orders. Over the couple of days, people have posted screenshots in which they are comparing the food delivery prices offered by ONDC, Swiggy, and Zomato.
The price of Big Tandoori Paneer Burger, for example Rs. 359 in both Swiggy and Zomato, while it was Rs. 270 on ONDC nearly 25% less. It was being beta tested at 16 locations across Bengaluru. The city also hosted alpha tests in April last year, before alpha testing was extended to more than 80 cities.
