Mahasamund: The district police have arrested five accused with 250 kilograms of ganja which they were transporting in two luxury cars. The value of the seized drug is estimated to be Rs. 62.50 lakhs. The accused were using the two cars to transport the drug from Odisha to Maharashtra.
Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh said that police had received information from an informer that a large contingent of ganja was about to come in and therefore Singhoda police were checking the vehicles ar Rehtikhol check post, when an unregistered car came from Odisha. The car was stopped by the police and checked wherein 6kg of ganja was kept in 150 sacks, recovered by the police.
The accused have been identified as Raman Yadav (24) and Brijesh Yadav (22) with Rs 37,50,000 worth of the drug. The police has registered a case against them.
Since January, the Mahasamund police is actively working to break the drug network in the district as it seized ganja worth Rs. 8 crores and arrested 81 people. Chhattisgarh has been the common route for cannabis to transported from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Earlier in June 2021, Chhattisgarh Police seized 1100 kg of cannabis worth Rs. 2.20 crores while being concealed under a pile of jackfruits in the truck transporting the contraband from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh.
