Kedarnath: Char Dham Yatra temporarily suspends as the Yatra route towards Kedarnath Dham has been closed after a fragment glacier broke at Bhairon today afternoon. Further, the Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit has appealed the pilgrims to avoid going by foot towards Kedarnath Dham.

While the pilgrimage remained suspended due to inclement weather, four Nepali porters were rescued unhurt by th State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. District Disaster Management Officer of Rudraprayag Nandan Singh Rajwar said, “a part of the Bhairav/ Kuber glacier broke away and slid down about 5 km below the Himalayan temple”.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department forecasted snowfall to continue for high-altitude temples in Uttarakhand till May 4 and advised pilgrims to stay where they were and proceed on their onward journey only when the weather improves. The Met Department also issued a yellow alert for the state for Monday forecasting hailstorms, rain, and snowfall at places located above 3500 metres.

Now, the pilgrimage to Kedarnath shall stay on hold till coming Wednesday as snowfall continues on the Himalayan Temple. Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Chairman, Ajendra Ajay has advised pilgrims to proceed their journey only after taking a weather update and making arrangements for their stay in advance so that they do not face any inconvenience.
