Washington DC: Top executives from major technology giants including Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic will meet Vice President Kamal Harris and other high-ranking officials from Biden administration to discuss issues pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI).

Concerns of rapid growth in AI technology centres potential proliferation of scams, misinformation, privacy violations, and bias. As concerns over the impact of AI on national security and education grow, the administration is also seeking public comments on proposed accountability measures for AI systems. The White House officials have confirmed that the meeting emphasized on President Biden’s expectations that companies must prioritize the safety of their products before making them public.

ChatGPT, an AI program that recently garnered public’s attention for its ability to write answers quickly to a wide range of queries has attracted the attention of US lawmakers. It has grown to become the fastest-growing consumer application in the history with more than 100 million active users monthly.

Earlier in April, President Biden had acknowledged that it remains to be seen if AI is dangerous but underscored that technology companies have the responsibility of ensuring that their products are safe.
