United Nations: External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar has discussed the worsening situation in Sudan with the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and underscored the need for successful diplomacy. Days after violence in Sudan have resulted in the deaths of at least 180 people and left many wounded, the discussion can lead to an early ceasefre and create safer ground situation.
“Good to meet UN Secretary General @antonioguterres in New York today afternoon. Discussed the current developments in Sudan, G20 Presidency and Ukraine”, tweeted Jaishanker after a meeting at UN Headquarters.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation declared the scarcity of supplies in the country. WHO’s Sudan representative, Dr. Nima Saeed Abid told that most of hospitals are out of medical supplies, blood bags, oxygen, surgical kits, and other essential medicines.
Sudan has been on a run by the army with coup leader General Abdel-Fattah Burrah since 2021 after the country ended a transitional government. the current fighting is representative of the latest crisis in the North African nation, which contended with numerous coups and periods of civil strife since becoming independent in 1956.
