NEW DELHI: The SC on Monday has agreed to hear the fresh plea by the Muslim side seeking permission for Wuzu (Ablution) near the spot where a Shivling was discovered.

“We will take it for hearing on April 14,” the Apex Court said assuring Senior Advocate, Huzefa Ahmadi, appearing for the Muslim party that the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dr. Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chadrachud will hear the matter.

The fresh plea came after the apex court allowed the Muslim side to file an application before it regarding their request to carry out the practice of ‘Wuzu’ inside the mosque premises during the month of Ramzan.

On the counsel’s request to hear the plea on Monday, CJ DY Chandrachud said, “This is a procedural issue”. The plea further added that the area where the shivling-like object found was sealed. It deprived worshippers of the wuzukhana needed for offering namaz as well as the washroom which remained sealed until today.

The apex court had earlier on April 06, agreed to hear a plea also filed by the Muslim side, seeking a direction that worshippers should be able to pray inside the Gyanvapi premises, keeping in view the Ramzan, after hearing a mention by the lawyer Ahmadi.

He had told the Top Court earlier in the last date of hearing that this is the month of Ramzan and the worshippers should be able to pray inside the premises, to which, the Apex Court agreed to hear it on April 14.

It should be recalled that on May 17, 2022, in an interim order, the top court directed the authorities to protect the ‘Wuzu’ area where the ‘Shivling’ was found and granted access to Muslims for namaz. The ablution area of the Gyanvapi mosque is the center of the Gyanvapi mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple remains to be at the front fight between Hindus and Muslims.
