INDORE: Indore city mayor on Friday suspended the president and the secretary of the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple, Patel Nagar in which 35 people died so far and several were injured as the floor of the temple that covered a step well collapsed while a score of devotees performed havan during the ocassion of Ram Navami.

The Indore police has also booked them for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Interacting with the media, Indore Police Commissioner said,” An FIR was filed against the president and secretary of the temple committee in the Indore tragedy case. The matter is being investigated. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered and we will take action accordingly.”

The duo have been booked under Section 304 of IPC.

Earlier today CM Chauhan faced the anger of the relatives as he visted the spot to take stock of the situation along with home minister Narottam Mishra. He ordered a magiterial inquiry into the incident and promised financial compensation to the victims. As per the order, all step wells in the city and structures built in and around the water body will be traced and inspected. District Magistrate has ordered the Additional collector Abhay Bhedkar to conduct a magisterial enquiry and submit the report in a fortnight. The inquiry will be conducted yo find out under what circumstances the death occired and the chronology of the events and who is responsible for the tragedy among other aspects.

As the rescue operations were underway, the death toll rose to 36 aas the last body was recovered from the stepwell. As many as 14 have been rescued and search still continues as dozens are still feared missing.
