Massive hailstorms were reported from Jhinriya and Bhagwanpura tehsil of Khargone district on Sunday leading to heavy damage to the crops. The continous hailstorm lasted for around 30 minutes. Images and videos of the hailstorm went viral on social media. One picture showed a road covered in white flakes giving the feel of Kashmir in Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the farmers interacting with the media persons have demanded compensation from the government for the damage caused due to the unseasonal rains in the state. In Bajag development block in Dindori district, huge farmlands were covered with hail.
Unseasonal rains and hail are expected few days due to the western disturbances said IMD in a notice. Prior to the hailstorm, the farmers were ready to harvest their Rabi crops.
Earlier on Saturday, Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took stock of the crops damaged due to the unseasonal rain and also assured the farmers of necessary compensation after conducting a survey.
Talking about his visit to the hailstorm-affected villages, he said “Many farmers in the villages of Morena, Gwalior & Ashoknagar districts have lost their crops. Last year’s compensation amount was provided to most of the farmers”.
“This year also I have directed the administration to conduct a survey, accordingly, compensation would be fixed,” he said. The survey, however, will be conducted two days later, owing to the unfavourable weather conditions.
Notably, IMD predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail and gusty winds were likely in parts of Madhya Pradesh.
